About University of Westminster
Westminster Business School
For nearly 80 years Westminster Business School has served the needs of busy professionals and business people living and working in and around the capital. It is now one of the largest centres for business and management education in the UK, with over 200 academic staff and 7000 students and a wide range of commercial and public sector clients. It is a cosmopolitan and international organisation, reflecting London’s own demographic variety, with a third of full-time students from outside the UK and staff from 16 countries. The School is divided into six core business disciplines covering Marketing, Human Resources Management, Leadership, Business Information Management and Operations, Finance and Business Law and Economics and Quantitative Techniques. Many specialist research groups provide themed links for staff both within the School and across the whole university. For example the Centre for Employment Research, links School staff on issues such as diversity, human capital and reward and performance management. And the Responsible Innovations group connects university expertise on corporate social responsibility including governance, sustainability and environment and management of risk. This gives us the ability to match even a niche business requirement to the appropriate expert. Our main Business School location is easily accessible in central London, based opposite Baker Street tube station.
What can Westminster Business School do for you?
We can help transform your organisation. Whether your focus is on strategic or project development, the acquisition of specific technical skills or improved individual and team performance, we have a network of experts with the practical hands-on experience and up-to-date research knowledge to help. We offer a wide ‘menu’ of services for organisations – including contract research and business consultancy to courses for management development, from individual coaching programmes to student internships. The dissemination of new ideas and working with external partners is a central part of our role as a Business School, and also benefits both our teaching and research. As a not for profit organisation we are able to offer both cost-effective and innovative approaches in our business development.
Driving Organisational Performance
Our academic staff run many business consultancy projects; from the strategic to the tactical and across all business disciplines. The benefits of working with a university include the reassurance and specialist knowledge that comes from working with academics and their access to a large pool of specialised commercial expertise. They also include cost-effectiveness; and in many cases we are able to offer highly subsidised and cost-effective consultancy projects. For example, the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships scheme which aims to improve the competitiveness and productivity of businesses and charities through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within universities. We appreciate that some businesses may require initial support in identifying and specifying business needs and opportunities, and wish to establish working relationships before committing to a project. So we offer a free initial business development session working jointly with your senior managers and directors to highlight your requirements. Our executive coaching team can also enhance organisational performance of both individuals and groups, supporting both short term objectives and strategic goals. Every coaching programme is constructed specifically to meet the needs of the individual in the context of their org setting.
Student resource
Opportunities to learn from the real world of work are critical in developing students as practical and capable managers. For the employer, student input provides a fresh approach and ideas, and can be an extremely cost-effective solution:
Internships
Internships range from six weeks to a full year, and can be undergraduate or postgraduate, giving employers flexibility in meeting any timing or skills set requirement. The employer provides a job with real responsibilities – we provide the specialist team to support the recruitment process and student/employer matching, plus ongoing management.
Projects
Selected teaching programmes require live projects for student teams, supervised by an academic. Consulting Westminster Business Consulting is a student enterprise, and a member of the international JADE federation that can offer a professional and lower cost consultancy route for smaller projects.
We also look for external support in:
Mentoring
Full time international Masters Students are matched with individuals working in a similar field who are willing to provide advice and information on UK practices and work culture.
